Zouk autumn season in Helsinki - 2014

While the summer is still going strong, the autumn season is starting in the dance schools! Oh no! Oh yesss!!

Dates are subject to change and more classes & parties are sure to appear - always check with the respective organisers for their latest schedule. You can also keep up-to-date with all the events via the "Zouk in Finland" calendar!



ZOUK CLASSES


Rio Zouk

Teachers: Freddy Marinho and Andressa Castelhano
Dance school: Rio Zouk Style
What: Rio zouk (= a style of Brazilian zouk style originating from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil).*
When: 26 Aug - 4 Dec:
      Wed 19:45-20:45 progressive course / Fundamentals
      Tue and Thu 19:30-20:30 progressive course / Team A (beginners/improvers)
      Tue and Thu 20:30-21:30 progressive course / Team B (improvers/intermediate)

Mzouk

Dance school: Spiral Dancers
What: Mzouk (= Brazilian zouk style developed in Mallorca, Spain).*
When: Starting 3 Sep:
      Wed 19:30-20:30 beginners at SalsaStudio
      Sun: 16:00-17:30 improvers at TapahtumaSali

Brazilian Zouk

Weekly parties


AfroLatin Night

Mondays at 21:00~01:00 mixed "afrolatin" party at Uggla, organised by IDNZ. On the downstairs dance floor there is zouk, as well as kizomba, semba and bachata; upstairs salsa. Dance classes before the party! Entrance for the party: 7€.**

Zouk Open Air

Wednesdays 18:00-21:00 zouk al fresco at "Opera stage" (amphitheatre behind the Opera House), weather permitting. Free for one-time visitors, regular zoukers pay 10€ for the entire summer season. Note: Now on a break for the winter and will return late spring 2015. Keep an eye on Brazilian Zouk in Finland Facebook page for updates.**

Zouk Sunday Social 

Sundays 18:00-20:00 zouk social at Etnofitness, organised by Rio Zouk Style.


Occasionally


Every now and then there are more irregular zouk (and zouk friendly kizomba) parties happening in Helsinki. The fall schedule seems to be wide open at the moment. Keep an eye on the following pages and the DTW "Zouk in Finland" calendar for the party announcements: 




Zouk events


International Zouk Flash Mob (IZFM)


A "one of a kind" event - the IZFM is a zouk flash mob that will take place all around the world at the same time. Started in 2012, the event is expanding each year, with thousands of dancers involved all around the world! Altogether 127 cities in 43 countries zouking to the same song & choreography last year  - this year, even more!?

Helsinki Zouk Festival


Held now for the fourth year, Helsinki Zouk Festival invites all the zouk dancers around the world to our beautiful capital city, Helsinki on 31 Oct - 2 Nov. This year, the star attractions include none other than Renata & Jorge, Val & Thayná, Dadinho & Aline, Freddy & Andressa, Daniel & Leticia and Clinton & Cristi. Don't miss this event!

*) There are a couple different 'styles' of Brazilian zouk - pick your favourite or learn all of them! But worry not: dancers of any zouk style can dance with people from all styles of zouk, no matter where or from whom they have learned.
